Dallas Wings Waive JJ Quinerly
After earning opportunities in her rookie season, the Dallas Wings waive second-year guard JJ Quinerly.
The Dallas Wings have waived second-year guard JJ Quinerly.
Quinerly was selected by the Wings 27th overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She earned a lot of time on the court in her rookie season, appearing in 34 games and made 13 starts. In her rookie season, Quinerly averaged 6.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.9 steals. Quinerly shot 42.6 percent from the floor, while making 38.9 percent beyond the arc.
Quinerly’s rookie season ended prematurely when she suffered an ACL sprain in her left knee, making her miss the final eight games of the 2025 season. She also missed most of training camp but still made the final roster. Quinerly had an uphill battle as she was returning from injury and her spot wasn’t the same from her rookie season. The team had a new roster and her role wasn’t defined anymore.
Training camp was a valuable time for Odyssey Sims, who carved out a role at point guard early before the season started. With a roster that now stacked with multiple guards in Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale, Azzi Fudd, Aziaha James and Sims, it was tough seeing a opportunity for Quinerly to play.
After being out of the rotation, Quinerly hasn’t seen a lot of time on the court this season as she has only appeared in just two games, averaging 1.0 points and 1.0 assists. It may not come as a surprise as Quinerly did not receive any time on the court against the Portland Fire, despite Wings being without Bueckers and Sims due to ankle injuries.
The move creates roster flexibility for the team as they continue to shape the team with playoff aspirations. For Quinerly, she will try to find another opportunity to showcase her speed pushing the ball and defensive tenacity that she showed in her rookie season and college career.
